Is Vaseline Absorbed Into the Skin?

No. The molecular structure and weight of Vaseline and Liquid Vaseline prevent these ingredients from passing through the epidermal barrier.

They have a high molecular weight (typically above 300 g/mol), meaning they do not penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin but rather remain on the stratum corneum, the outermost layer.
This allows them to form a protective and moisturizing barrier on the skin’s surface without entering systemic circulation or posing any toxic risk.

Dermatological literature indicates that molecules larger than 500 Daltons cannot pass through the skin barrier — Vaseline molecules are well above this limit..

Why Is This Important?

Because of its high molecular weight:
It is not absorbed into the body and does not reach the liver.
It does not accumulate or cause toxic effects

For this reason, Vaseline is commonly used in baby care products, medical ointments, and dermocosmetics formulated for sensitive skin.
